One of the best ways you can show your support for 2020 Census efforts in our region is by making sure you understand the facts and sharing them with other people you know.

  • WHO? Everyone living in the United States on April 1, 2020, must be counted, according to the U.S. Constitution. From babies to seniors, everyone counts.
  • WHAT? The U.S. Census Bureau conducts the census every 10 years to count every person living in the 50 states, District of Columbia and five U.S. territories. The U.S. Census Bureau is a nonpartisan government agency.
  • WHEN? The 2020 census form will be available beginning in mid-March. You will receive an invitation from the U.S. Census Bureau no later than April 1 to participate in the census.
  • WHY? The results of the 2020 Census will affect community funding for important programs and services, fair government representation and statistics for use by decision makers in public and private sector organizations.
  • HOW? The census form may be completed online, by phone or by mail. One form should be completed per household. Filling out the form is easy and secure. See more information about census questions.
  • ECONOMIC IMPACT ON PROGRAMS AND SERVICES In FY 2016, Arizona received $20,550,087,125 in public funding for 55 programs. This amount was determined using data gathered in the 2010 Census. View a list of funded programs (PDF).
  • CONFIDENTIALITY Under Title 13 of the U.S. Code, the Census Bureau cannot release any identifiable information about you, your home or your business, even to law enforcement agencies. The law ensures that your private information is protected and that your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court, or impact your eligibility for government benefits.
  • NON-RESPONSE FOLLOW UP Beginning in May 2020, census takers from the U.S. Census Bureau will visit homes that have not submitted a response. They will ask you to complete the census form to ensure everyone in our region is counted.

Remember, the 2020 Census is more than a count. It's an opportunity to get involved and help shape the future of your community. Encourage your friends, family members and peers to participate in the 2020 Census. Just say, "Count me in!" See more about the 2020 Census.
