Our region's economic vitality and competitiveness depends on how easily freight can move throughout our region. Whether by truck, rail or air, we want to ensure our transportation system supports the efficient and safe movement of goods.

PAG seeks to foster relationships with the freight community and the public, and to use the latest industry-specific data to identify regional opportunities and strategies for effective freight planning.

PAG has five primary freight planning goals:

  • Improve economic vitality through investment in the freight network, programs and initiatives
  • Improve freight mobility within the region
  • Improve the safety of the regional freight network
  • Improve maintenance of the regional freight network
  • Improve sustainability and reduce environmental impacts from freight movement

Understanding the importance of freight to the region, PAG is developing a regional freight plan to identify solutions to regional freight issues. The regional freight plan will be completed by spring 2018.

The plan will identify the following:

  • The region’s primary freight modes
  • System needs and deficiencies
  • Strategies to improve freight mobility
  • Strategies to minimize negative impacts to safety, the environment and quality of life
